The unemployment insurance is one branch of statutory social security in Germany. The legal basis is volume III of the German Social Insurance Code (SGB III).
The aim of unemployment insurance is to achieve a high level of employment and to prevent unemployment or at least shorten its duration.
The German unemployment insurance fund is the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit).
