Everyone should thoroughly inform themselves about work at sea and the professional paths available. The best way to take a peek is the holiday program of the shipowners' association VDR or an internship on board.

I inform interested people about all training and career options, but will always warmly recommend to start their work at sea with the well-founded apprenticeship as ships' mechanic. It teaches seafaring from scratch and gives them three years to figure out in which direction the career should be headed.
