More information
Every year, the International Maritime Organization IMO focusses on one maritime topic. This year's topic is Navigating the future: safety first! and is promoted by several initiatives throughout the day and the month:
At IMO Headquarters in London, a joint WMO-IMO symposium on extreme maritime weather will take place looking in particular into`Bridging the Knowledge Gap Towards Safer Shipping’. The symposium takes place between 23-26 September.
On the actual World Maritime Day, 26th September, the IMO will bath its building in blue light and invites shipping authorities and organizations around the world to do the same.
Once again the hashtag #WorldMaritimeDay will circulate the social media platforms X, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn to make the maritime world and its issues visible and share experiences with this year's topic. Take part and engage!
In Barcelona, Spain, this year's parallel event will take place from 20 - 22 October featuring speakers from all over the world who will share their insights into the topic "Navigating the future: safety first!"
