Job opportunities at the flag state administration

The German flag state administration consists of BG Verkehr (Ship Safety Division), the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), the Federal Network Agency and the shipping registers. Each of these institutions publishes their job offers on their own website.

Head of fire protection department as well as of the assessment and certifiation body (m/diverse/f)

Among other things:

engineering or technical university degree (master/chartered) with a focus on maritime/marine issues

min. 5 years prof. experience with fire protection on sea-going ships, ideally min. 2 years experience with product certification, preferably marine equipment, and experience with QMS

experience in a leading position as well as handling of dangerous goods would be of advantage

Paygrade 14 acc. to the collective agreement of the "Berufsgenossenschaften" (BG-AT) (see table for career path), 30 vacation days, 13. month wage, retirement plan

Ship's mechanic 
(m/f/d)

unlimited on the surveying, wreck searching and research vessel Atair and as  general reserve for all ships 

among other requirements:

Graduation as ship's mechanic or a similar profession (i.e. rating)

Competence of navigational watch acc. to A-II/4 of STCW Code

Proof of proficiency acc. to VI/1 (basic safety training) and VI/2 (survival and rescue craft)

Valid medical fitness certificate acc. to regulation I/9 STCW

German proficiency to the standard of B1 (GER) (will be checked in interview)

desirable skills, among others:

  • knowledge of coastal trade
  • proficiency for service on ships subj. to IGF Code
  • training as diving signal man

Salary group 8 TVöD (Bund)

500-700 €/month compensation for special type of work
